When it comes to smoothies, I'm a bit of a snob. I'll let my ego ride this wave for a moment
but over my years of blending fruit I think I have come pretty close to mastering a damn
good smoothie.
For a smoothie to be totally lovable, they have to have just the right flavour, just the right colour
and most importantly just the right consistency. Perhaps 'just the right consistency' varies
depending on perspective but from my perspective I like them on the creamy and dense side
so the flavous linger in my mouth for a while. I like to eat it with a spoon.
Finally, to fully appreciate the blended beauty, I put it in a clear glass Mason jar. No plastic cups
or ceramic mugs, please - what are you thinking!? Show some respect and pour it in a
Mason jar or a crisp clean glass. Too far? Okay, calming down and moving on to the recipe.
Here is the recipe for the smoothie I crushed this morning :)
See-Ya-Later-2012 Smoothie
- 2 bananas - frozen
- 2 cups frozen blueberries
- 1 avocado
- a bunch of spinach
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1.5 cups of rice/almond milk
- Optional - Hemp hearts
Blend away.
Add water when you need to, but don't go crazy on the liquids. Even if you have a good blender,
help the blades out by stirring the goodness with a SHORT spoon. When you do this, you
may be surprised how little water you need.
What makes this smoothie just right in my eyes?
- The blueberries add a rich dark purply colour.
- The frozen bananas and blueberries add a cold denseness.
- The avocado adds the creaminess - along with the bananas.
- The lemon gives it that little kick.
- I feel good for adding the spinach.
Enjoy the last few days of 2012!
